The Guatemala Highlights tour will allow you to quickly discover the main attractions of this magical country. In just 6 days you will experience rich Spanish colonial history & architecture – breathtaking Lake Atitlan and its celebrated Mayan Indian villages – awe inspiring tropical fauna, flora, adventure and Mayan archeological ruins nestled deep in the tropical rainforest. DAY & LOCATION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Day 1: Airport - Antigua
Arrive into Guatemala City and be transferred directly to your lovely charm hotel in Antigua. Spend an afternoon/evening enjoying this magical colonial town, considered by some to be the most beautiful in the world. Walk its romantic cobble stone streets and enjoy fine cuisine at one of the many excellent gourmet restaurants in the area.

GROUND TRANSPORT: Pick up from Guatemala Int. Airport (Time TBC) for private transfer in deluxe air conditioned mini van or SUV to Antigua (45 min. drive) - Please look for driver with "TROPICAL DISCOVERY" Sign at airport
LODGING: 3 nights - 1 Queen Double Room - Hotel Casa Encantada
Day 2: Antigua - Chichicastenango - Lake Atitlan - Antigua
Depart at 8:00 am for a full day tour with private transport to visit the mystical city of Chichicastenango (Thursdays and Sundays only) & Lake Atitlan. Chichicastenango, located at 2500 meters above sea level, is famous for its market on Thursdays & Sundays, where spats of traditionally dressed villagers in a kaleidoscope of colors, come to sell their very colorful textiles, fruits, vegetables and flowers. After lunch, depart for a visit of magical Lake Atitlan. Here you can spend the afternoon visiting the lake side village of Panajachel, or as an option, take a boat ride to visit other nearby villages. We would depart around 4:00 pm for our drive back to Antigua (approx. 2.5 hours) where you may enjoy the evening at your leisure.

GROUND TRANSPORT: 8:00 am pick up from your hotel for private transfer in deluxe air conditioned mini van or SUV to Chichicastenango (2 hrs) and later Lake Atitlan (1 hr) - (Tour Duration: 10 hours); Guide available upon request.
Day 3: Antigua (Free Day)
Free day to tour the magical colonial village of La Antigua, visit its monuments, museums, shop at the various Indian markets & stroll through the cobble stone streets. Day 4: Antigua - Peten (Tikal Tour)
Be transferred from Antigua (pick up 4:30 am) to Guatemala City Airport for your 7:00 am flight to Flores/Tikal arriving at 7:55 am. Spend the day visiting and exploring Tikal, one of the largest and most magnificent Mayan cities in existence. Your expert guide will share many insights on this Mayan city and provide a feel for the mysteries of this ancient culture. Enjoy a fantastic lunch in the park, and return in the afternoon to spend the rest of the day and evening relaxing at your charming lake side hotel. You may opt for a visit and possibly dinner in the lovely town of Flores, the capital of the Peten region.

GROUND TRANSPORT: 4:30 am pick up from your hotel in Antigua for private transfer in deluxe air conditioned mini van or SUV to Guatemala City Airport (45 min. drive.)
AIR TRANSPORT: 7:00 am departure from Guatemala City on TACA flight 7972 with arrival in Flores at 7:55 am
TIKAL TOUR: Pick up from Airport at 7:55 am by your private bilingual guide for immediate departure for Tikal ruins for an all day tour including lunch (without beverages), entrance fee and transportation.
LODGING: 1 night - 1 Rainforest Casita - La Lancha Resort
Day 5: Peten (Free day) - Guatemala City
Free day to enjoy the many attractions the Peten Region has to offer. You could opt for a morning tour of the romantic archeological site of Yaxha/Topoxte (highly recommended), or any of the other sites and attractions of the region based on your specific interest. Peten also boasts the largest protected tropical forest area in Central America, whose areas amazing fauna and flora, lakes, rivers, lagoons, caves, etc. make it a perfect place to engage in all sorts of adventurous activities. Please click here to see our optional tours in the region. Or of course, simply relax lakeside, soaking up the sun and enjoying the natural sounds of the rainforest.... Be transferred to the airport in Flores at 5:00 pm for your 6:50 pm flight back to Guatemala City with immediate transfer to your hotel in Guatemala City.

GROUND TRANSPORT: Transport by hotel transporters to Flores airport ($50 + tax for 1-4 pers. to be paid directly) - Please confirm time with the reception.
AIR TRANSPORT: 6:50 pm departure from Flores on TACA flight 7973 with arrival in Guatemala City at 7:50 pm
GROUND TRANSPORT: Transfer from Guatemala Int. Airport to hotel provided by FREE by regular hotel shuttle service - Please look for driver with "WESTIN CAMINO REAL" Sign

Day 6: Guatemala City - Airport
Please take the hotel’s free shuttle service departing every 30 minutes to the airport or arrange a taxi directly with the hotel concierge. Kindly remember to be at the airport a minimum of 2 hours prior to the departure of your international flight.

Here you will have the opportunity to visit one of the most magnificent colonial cities in all the Americas. Simply relax at side walk cafés, shop at Indian markets, enjoy the city's many historical ruins and monuments, visit its museums, enjoy fabulous cuisine & experience Mayan culture. The more adventurous may opt to take a day to deep sea fish the nearby Pacific, hike a local active volcano, mountain bike, golf or horse back ride.

What to Bring


Antigua & Lake Atitlan Region:

They call it the "land of eternal spring", at 1700 meters above sea level, the temperature is just right. The days remain in the mid to upper 70's (mid 20's Celsius) with evenings becoming cooler dropping into the 60's (15 Celsius.) Bring a sweater or jacket for the evenings.

Peten Region:

Tropical fauna and flora at its best, but this also means warm and humid, so dress accordingly. Please make sure to bring the following: Mosquito repellent - Sunscreen - Hiking boots or good pair of tennis shoes - Bathing Suites - Rash guard for the water-sports people - Sun glasses
