This 11 day tour focuses on the archeological and cultural wonders this amazing region has to offer... along with a bit of Honduras' Caribbean sun and excellent diving opportunities. Arrive in Guatemala spend a few days in the most spectacular colonial city in the Americas, shopping, soaking up the Mayan and Guatemalan culture, or enjoy a few of the many adventure tours offered. Visit breathtaking Lake Atitlan and the nearby Indian villages. Then head to Peten and Tikal for a day and a half of Mayan archeology and jungle trekking. From there you will visit Roatan, one of Honduras' Bay Islands, for some blissful tropical sun, diving, snorkeling, island hopping, sightseeing.. etc. * Please note that all our tours are private & tailor made. DAY & LOCATION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Day 1: Guatemala City Airport - Antigua
Arrive into Guatemala City (TBA) and be transferred directly to your lovely charm hotel in Antigua. Spend an afternoon/evening enjoying this magical colonial town, considered by some to be the most beautiful in the world. Walk its romantic cobble stone streets and enjoy fine cuisine at one of the many fine gourmet restaurants in the area.

TRANSPORT: Pick up from Guatemala Int. Airport for private transfer to Antigua (45 min. drive) - Please look for driver with "TROPICAL DISCOVERY" Sign
LODGING: 2 nights - Double Room - Mansion del Pensativo
Day 2: La Antigua
Free day to tour this magical colonial village, visit its monuments, museums, shop at the various Indian markets & stroll through the cobble stone streets. Or you may opt for one of our special adventure or culture tours. Please visit our Tours from Antigua page for more details.
Day 3: La Antigua - Iximche - Lake Atitlan
Depart at 9:00 am for breathtaking Lake Atitlan, a deep-blue volcanic crater lake surrounded by three picture perfect volcanoes and the colorful Maya villages resting on its shores. Described as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world by late British author Aldous Huxley, it is definitely one of Guatemala’s most spectacular natural attractions. Spend the afternoon visiting the lake side villages of Panajachel, Santiago, San Pedro and St. Catarina Palopo - take a hike up one of the three volcanos, by foot or horse, kayak, waterski, scuba dive, etc. There are a myriad of activities to enjoy at this amazing lake. Stop in rout to visit the late Post-Classic Maya ruins of Iximché, ruled by the Kaqchikel in the 15th century until it’s burning by the Spanish in 1526, is also a worthy visit. Located in the municipal district of Tecpán, this archaeological site was the ancient capital of the Maya Kakchiquel Indians and Guatemala’s first capital – “The kingdom of Goathemala.” These well preserved ruins, located on a promontory in the higher and cooler Sierra mountains, surrounded by steep slopes and pine trees. A stop at the Solola market (cooperativa) is also an option.

GROUND TRANSPORT: 9:00 am pick up from your hotel for private transfer in deluxe air conditioned mini van or SUV to Lake Atitlan (3 hrs), with stop in Iximche and Solola market

Day 4: Lake Atitlan (free day)
Free Day at Lake Atitlan - Here you may choose to relax at your deluxe lake side Hotel, swim in the lake, take a boat tour to one or various of the many lake side villages. Highly Recommended!! Visit nearby Panajachel, Santiago, San Pedro and St. Catarina Palopo. Or for the more adventurous, take a hike up one of the three volcanoes by foot or horse, kayak, water-ski, scuba dive, etc. There are a myriad of activities to enjoy at this amazing lake - Please visit our Tours at Lake Atitlan page for more details. Or simply relax by the pool at your beautiful lake side hotel.

RECOMMENDED: Chichicastenango Day Tour (Sun & TH only)
Today we recommend you organize at the hotel a private or public tour to visit the mystical city of Chichicastenango (1 hr drive). The city is located at 2500 meters above sea level and is famous for its market on Thursdays & Sundays. Spats of traditionally dressed villagers in a kaleidoscope of colors come to sell their very colorful textiles, fruits, vegetables and flowers here. Day 5: Lake Atitlan - Peten (Tikal)
Spend a free morning enjoying one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Be picked up at 10:00 am at the hotel for you private transfer to Guatemala City Airport. A quick stop for lunch or coffee at the lovely café Katuk is always a lovely option we are sure you will enjoy. Arrive at Guatemala city airport around 3:30 pm for your 5:00 pm TACA flight to Flores. Arrive in Flores at 6:00 pm where the Hotel transporters will be there to meet you and take you to your deluxe eco lodge nestled deep in the Peten jungle.

GROUND TRANSPORT: 10:00 am pick up from hotel for private transfer in deluxe air conditioned mini van or SUV to Guatemala city Airport (4 hour drive)
AIR TRANSPORT: 5:00 pm departure from Guatemala City on TACA flight 978 with arrival in Flores at 6:00 pm (Please note 50 lbs maximum per person allowed: For anything over there is a $40 surcharge)
GROUND TRANSPORT: Pick up from Flores airport by hotel transporters ($45 + tax, 1-4 pers.) - Please look for driver with "La Lancha" Sign at airport
LODGING: 2 nights - 1 Lake View Casita - La Lancha Resort
Day 6: Peten (Tikal Tour)
After a hearty breakfast, your private guide and transport will pick you up at hotel 9:00 am take you to explore Tikal, one of the largest and most magnificent Mayan archeological cities in existence, which in its heyday (c. 700 AD,) was the capital of a vast Mayan empire. Your expert guide will share many insights on this Mayan city and provide a feel for the mysteries of this ancient culture. Have lunch in the midst of Mayan ruins and breathtaking flora and fauna; return in the late afternoon and spend the evening relaxing lake side, or opt for a visit & possibly dinner in the lovely town of Flores, the capital of the Peten region.

TIKAL TOUR: 9:00 am departure from Hotel in Peten for Tikal ruins with expert guide for an all day guided tour, complete with lunch, entrance fees and transportation.
Day 7: Peten (Tikal) - Guatemala City
Free morning to enjoy the many attractions the Peten Region has to offer. You could opt for a morning tour of the romantic archeological site of Yaxha/Topoxte (highly recommended), or any of the other sites and attractions of the region based on your specific interest and the expert recommendation of your hotels concierge. Peten also boasts the largest protected tropical forest area in Central America, whose areas amazing fauna and flora, lakes, rivers, lagoons, caves, etc.. make it a perfect place to engage in all sorts of adventurous tours and activities. Or of course, simply relax lakeside, soaking up the sun and enjoying the natural sounds of the rainforest.... Be transferred to airport in Flores at 2:00 pm for your 4:00 pm flight back to Guatemala City. Arrive at Guatemala city airport at 4:50 pm and please take Camino Real Shuttle service to hotel, where you may spend a relaxing evening at your hotel and dining in Guatemala's lively Zona Viva.

AIR TRANSPORT: 4:00 pm departure from Flores on TACA flight 7977 with arrival in Guatemala city at 4:50 pm
GROUND TRANSPORT: 5:00 pm pick up from Airport terminal by Camino Real shuttle service (10 min. drive) - Please look for hotel shuttle service upon arrival.

Day 8: Guatemala City - Roatan
Be transferred by hotel transport at 5:00 am to Guatemala City Airport for your TACA flight departing at 7:10 am via El Salvador and San Pedro Sula to beautiful Roatan on Honduras' Caribbean Coast. Arrive into Roatan at 11:50 am the largest of the eight Bay Islands that lie some 40 miles off the Caribbean coast of the Honduras, an archipelago patchwork that is all that remains of an ancient submerged volcanic mountain range, known as the Bonacca Ridge. The hotel transporter will take you directly to you spectacular beach resort in West Bay, the Mayan Princess! Just steps from your door, a powdery white, sandy beach leads to sparkling, turquoise water and spectacular underwater gardens. Watch the sun slip into the sea from the veranda of your own luxurious villa, or stop by at the Beach Bar & Grill for sunset cocktails and “island style” appetizers. LODGING: 3 nights - 1 Beach front double room - Mayan Princess Beach Resort
Day 9: Roatan (free day)
Free day to enjoy the island and the resort. Stroll or take a water taxi to the West End to enjoy the local shops, buy a souvenir or dine at a restaurant. Or dive or snorkel some of the best reefs in the world. Whether your goal is to dive on shallow water reefs, deep-water wrecks, or any other type of diving, a training program can be created just for you. Day 10: Roatan (free day)
Another free day to enjoy the many activities offered on the island at the resort. Why not rent a car or a scooter for the day and explore the island. In the evening stroll along the beach, enjoy the Caribbean sunset and maybe have a drink in one of the many beach bars.
Day 11: Departure Roatan
Enjoy your last morning of Caribbean sun and fun before catching your international flight back home. (Please let us know should you need flights to Guatemala City or similar for your return flights home and we will be happy to assist you.)
