HIKING TOURS

Climb Pacaya Volcano from Antigua – Full Day

Our tour starts with a morning transfer (1hr) to the foothills of the active Pacaya volcano. The hike then begins with a fairly strenuous hike through wonderful pine forest up to the more tricky volcanic ash section and finally to the sulfur smoking cone. On occasions you can even see small eruptions and lava flow depending on the activity of the volcano. From the summit we can enjoy great views to the northern volcanoes, the pacific lowlands and all the way to El Salvador. Back at the base of the volcano, our support vehicle awaits us for our transfer back to Antigua.

• Private transfers in air-conditioned vehicle to/from Pacaya National Park (approx. 45 min/way).
• Recommended: 8:00 - 16:30

Pacaya Volcano climbing and Thermal Spa – Full Day

Our tour starts with a morning transfer at 07:00hrs from Antigua to the Park Office of Pacaya Volcano. As we move up the myriad of trails on the mountain, Guatemala’s impressive views open up before us. As we reach the base of the caldera, our guide will direct you through the rugged dried lava fields, recently reformed by a massive eruption in 2010. Midway, we will stop for a freshly prepared picnic to enjoy along with views of nearby volcanoes Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. There will be plenty of opportunity to explore geothermal hot-spots on the cooled lava formations – which are always available to help roast marshmallows! Our hike down brings across the remaining dried lava fields before we begin our descent through Pacaya’s lush and lesser known forests and farmland. After our hike down to the trailhead, we will take a private transport to a thermal spa whose natural springs are heated by the linked underground activity generated by the very volcano we just climbed.

Spa: Here you will start first with a ‘Thermal Circuit’, consisting of immersing the body for short periods of time in natural thermal pools of varying temperatures, moving from hot to cold. The thermal pools range in temperature from 24°C to 41°C. Next you will move onto a ‘Combined Steam and Hydrotherapy Bath’, where you can fill your own personal tub with thermal water at your desired temperature, including a cold water shower and a steam bath. Your spa therapy will come to an end with a relaxing 25 minute massage. Afterwards you will have plenty of time to return to the natural swimming pools and enjoy a snack and fruit smoothie. We return to Antigua by private transport to arrive in
town at 18:00hrs.

• Includes private transfer in air-conditioned vehicle, from/to Hotel in Antigua, transfer to thermal spa, entrance fees, private bilingual and certified 1st-aid training guide, picnic lunch or dinner. The trail up Volcan Acatenango has four distinct microclimates, each of which will take you about an hour to traverse. We’ll begin by walking up a steep trail through local farm fields. The second phase of our ascent passes through old-growth tropical cloud forest. This type of high-alpine is home to the famous Quetzal. After exiting the cloud forest, we will be rewarded with fantastic views of the other highland volcanoes (Atitlan, Toliman, San Pedro, Santa Maria, Santo Tomas, Tajamulco), along with glimpses of the Cuchumatanes Mountain chain. Soledad. Our group has the opportunity to descend through an alternate route down Acatenango Volcano, experiencing a variety of microclimates and beautiful trail. From La Soledad, we will transport you back to Antigua, arriving in the afternoon with plenty of time for you to enjoy the delights
