Natural Beauty & Mayan Ruins


Apart from the main archaeological site of Palenque the region also features a number of smaller Mayan ruins, each unique in its architecture and setting. The jungle area around Palenque covers 3,500 km2 (1,400 mi2). Palenque Ruins Tour - Half day

Enjoy a half day guided tour of the archeological site of Palenque, dating back to Mexico's Classic era (from 400-700 AD). Among the most important structures at the site are: The Palace, which has a notable tower that rises above the complex; The Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Cross and Temple of the Foliated Cross, which surround the Plaza del Sol; and the Temple of the Inscriptions.

Agua Azul & Misol-Ha Tour - Full day

Not far away from Palenque you can visit two important natural tourist attractions, which at some time could only be admired by Mayan royalty. The Misol-Ha Waterfalls with a height of approx. 30 m offer an amazing sight and great photo opportunities. Afterwards we'll be heading to the Agua Azul National Park where you can appreciate an abundance of flora and fauna in a natural habitat full of mahogany, cedar and sapodilla trees, as well as birds, insects and small mammals. You can swim in the beautiful blue waters, which have that color as a result of erosion; water flowing past the rocks causes small particles of lime containing magnesium salts and other chlorides to break off and dissolve.

Palenque Ruins, Agua Azul & Misol-Ha Tour - Full day

In the morning you will visit the impressive archeological site of Palenque before your tour will lead you to the Misol-Ha Waterfalls, surrounded by the amazing fauna and flora of the local jungle. From there you will continue your journey to the Agua Azul Waterfalls for a refreshing swim in the natural blue pools before returning to Palenque in the late afternoon.

Tonina Ruins & Agua Azul Tour - Full day

Enjoy a full day guided tour to Tonina and afterwards the Agua Azul National Park. The holy site of Tonina in the mountains of Chiapas is a place where one can almost physically feel the power of this pyramid structures that tower over the summit of a tree covered mountain range on the northern side of the Ocosingo valley. Over one thousand years of construction activity have created here a labyrinth of different eras, temples, palaces and stairways. Toniná's etymology means "Mansions of Stone". Your expert guide will give you an interesting insight into the history, architecture and secrets of the Mayas. On the way back you will visit the Agua Azul Waterfalls for a refreshing swim in the natural blue pools before returning to Palenque in the late afternoon.

Bonampak & Yaxchilan Ruins Tour - Full day

In the morning you will be taken to the archaeological site of Bonampak to see some of the best preserved wall paintings in the Mayan World. Afterwards we will continue our tour to Escudo Jaguar from where we will take a private boat ride (approx. 1 hour) along the Usumacinta River to the archaeological site of Yaxchilan, a prototype of a city lost in the jungle. Return to Palenque in the late afternoon.
