Esencia is not a typical hotel, though it certainly offers the personal service and pampering facilities you’d expect at a refined world-class resort. It is not a condo, though it has the privacy, luxury and personal touches that you’d want in your own residence. The hotel is a 50-acre private estate, with an awe-inspiring beachfront, and an indulgent atmosphere fitting of royalty. In fact, the property and many of the buildings once served as the exclusive beach-side retreat of an actual Italian duchess. Though friendly, warm and generous, the duchess demanded the very best and Hotel Esencia still benefits from her superior taste, her impeccable style and her zest for life. Located 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen's famous shopping and nightlife, along a two mile empty stretch of Mexico's best beach, Esencia is a quiet, sea side refuge in the Mayan Riviera.

AMENITIES
• 29 rooms and suites, simple and elegant, featuring native hardwood furnishings, crisp white walls and floors, twelve-foot high ceilings, mahogany louvered doors and large windows that frame tropical garden and sea views. Other features include 600-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, duvet covers, glorious down pillows and Molton Brown amenities.
• The extra-large bathrooms have double rain-shower heads and private chef and butler service is available at all times. In-room refrigerators are stocked with complimentary water, soft drinks and beer.

ROOM TYPES
Garden Room: Located in the estate’s tranquil garden area, these rooms offer the ideal combination of privacy and relaxation. Rooms feature entertainment systems with large flat-screen TVs, DVD/CD players and iPod systems. They have a small private balcony overlooking the luscious gardens. Available with one king or two queen beds.
Garden Suite with plunge pool: Located in estate’s tropical gardens, these spacious rooms also offer a great combination of privacy and relaxation. They feature a large terrace with sitting area and a private plunge pool. Each room has a double vanity, shower room, walk-in closet and entertainment system with large flat-screen TV, DVD/CD player and iPod. Some Garden Suites also offer a bathtub and solarium and rooms with two double beds.
Terrace Suite: Located in the main house, featuring a plunge pool on the spacious terrace, just steps from the beach and the main pool, ipod connection, walk-in closet, and plasma screen TV.
Master Garden Suite: Located in the estate's main house, this very private and secluded large suite features a spacious private terrace with plunge pool. The suite is outfitted with a luxurious king bed and airy bathroom with a bathtub and huge shower room.
Ocean View Room "Jaguar": Located in the estate’s main house, where the duchess enjoys watching the seabirds play along the shoreline, these rooms feature spectacular views of the crisp white beach and the deep blue Caribbean. They have entertainment systems with large flat-screen TVs, DVD/CD players and iPod, plus walk-out terraces, large closets and premium bedding. Available with one king or two queen beds.
Ocean View Suite: Located in the estate’s exclusive main house, these suites feature spectacular views of the Caribbean, private terraces, spacious sitting areas and entertainment systems with large flat-screen TVs, DVD/CD players and iPods. They also have electric window shades to help set the perfect mood and a luxurious king bed.
Deluxe Ocean View Suite “Torre”: Located in the main house, this luxurious beachfront suite offers a 360-degree view of the area. With the push of a button, the electric window shades pull back to reveal an awe-inspiring view of the area – from ocean to beach to jungle canopy. Relax in your sun-chair on the spacious terrace as the sun rises from the Caribbean, spend your day lounging on the beach or exploring the region, then watch the sun set from the bedroom. This panoramic lookout doubles as a private movie screening room with retractable shades, surround sound, and a wide screen LCD high definition monitor.
Ocean View Master Suite “Rose”: The first thing you'll notice in this premium suite is the sitting room with a domed brick Catalan ceiling. This unit was the original home of the duchess and is still one of the best guest suites in the estate. It offers the following: spacious ocean-view terraces with sun-chairs, sundeck with plunge pool, flat-screen plasma TV, electric window shades, walk-in closet and luxurious bathroom with bathtub and huge shower room. It has a garden terrace with the option of connecting to an adjoining Ocean View Room.
The Cottage: Nestled in a private area within the estate’s tropical gardens, these two-story cottages feature a high-tech media room with surround sound, large flat-screen TV, CD/DVD players, large living room, outside terrace with dining area and a large swimming pool with sundeck and lounge chairs. The upstairs has a large master bedroom with terrace and sitting area, large bathroom with double vanity, shower room and bathtub and a walk-in closet. There is a second bedroom ideal for children, with two twin beds and separate bathroom. Cottages accommodate 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 12 or 3 adults and 1 child under the age of 12.
CUISINE
Dining at Hotel Esencia is the essence of gourmet cuisine. The chef combines his innovative and sophisticated preparation skills with fresh local ingredients, indigenous cooking methods and home-grown herbs to create dishes that are simple, yet inspired.
Most meals are taken at the signature Sal Y Fuego Restaurant, offering rustic cuisine served up in a casually refined setting that instantly warms its way into the hearts (and bellies) of diners from around the world. Esencia serves the finest seafood, meats and fresh salads, plus exotic ingredients found nowhere else in the world. The chef is happy to cater dishes to the unique tastes of each guest and can prepare meals to meet any special need or desire. Sal Y Fuego is the perfect prelude for an evening on the beach.
The chef and his team don't just prepare the meals; they also plant, tend and harvest many of the ingredients that go into the kitchen's most popular dishes. From fresh herbs and exotic spices to tropical fruits, vegetables and produce, many of the items served at Hotel Esencia were grown right in the estate's own gardens. There's something about the warm Caribbean sunshine, rich Mayan soil and fresh tropical rain that helps to grow the finest ingredients available and ensure that the food at Playa Carmen’s Esencia is always fresh and always appealing.

• 50% of invoiced amount is required in order to confirm reservation, balance due 45 days prior to arrival. (Full payment at time of booking required for Christmas/New Year reservations.)
• Cancellations must be made in writing 45 days prior to arrival date for full refund, excluding any cancellation fees that may be charged by the hotel and the administrative fee identified herein below. (Christmas/New Year reservations are non-refundable.) If cancellations are not made in writing within 45 days, penalties may be equal to the total invoiced amount (hotel terms will apply.) All cancellations received at any time will be charged $50 US administrative fee.
