The Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences (RIMS) offers dolphin encounters and educational programs for adults and children. Certification and specialty courses are offered to divers and snorkelers through the resort’s full-service, PADI 5-star dive facility. Underwater photographers can also enjoy the services of the photo shop. Nature lovers can enjoy the resort’s grounds by land or sea. Hikers can explore the nature trails at Bailey’s Key and nearby Carambola Gardens. The natural history of the island is featured at the Roatan Museum located near RIMS. Active guests can also participate in sea kayaking and canoeing, volleyball and horseback riding. Because so many attractions are near the island of Roatan, we can offer guests several adventurous day trips. On each one, you will leave in the morning and return to Anthony's Key Resort in the early evening. Air transportation is at an additional cost.

Diving

Perhaps no island in the Caribbean offers more distinctive or easily accessible dive sites than Roatan. The islands reefs and drop-offs are teeming with colorful marine life and are ideally suited for novices and experts alike.


Snorkeling

With two guided snorkel trips scheduled daily, the avid snorkeled is not tagging along on a dive boat at Anthony's Key. Our dedicated 51' flat-top snorkel boat tours inside and outside the reef to unveil Roatan's rich waters filled with life. Snorkelers will receive an underwater fish and coral ID card to help them spot Roatan's indigenous organisms and sea life. The snorkeling package also includes a reef ecology lecture and a fish ID slide show, as well as a dolphin beach encounter.


Dolphins

Dolphin encounter and educational programs will satisfy the curiosity of guests of all ages. Here, you can snorkel with dolphins or dive with them in the open sea, accompanied by a dolphin behaviorist and videographer. ONE-DAY EXCURSIONS:

We can offer guests several adventurous day trips. On each one, you will leave in the morning and return to Anthony's Key Resort in the early evening. Air transportation is at an additional cost.

White-water Rafting on the Rio Cangrejal

Raft through the spectacular Nombre de Dios Mountains and a virgin rainforest. Guides will explain river geology, rain forest ecology, and the local campesino culture. Egrets, toucans, kingfishers and parakeets are frequently seen.
Price includes 5-hour raft trip, class II, III, IV-V rapids, all equipment, professional bilingual guide, tropical picnic, taxes.

Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge


Ride the Standard Fruit Company coconut train, and then ride a small boat through the refuge's five square miles of tropical wet forests, mangroves and estuaries. White- faced capuchins, howler monkeys; caimans, alligators, birds and the endangered West Indian manatee abound here. Price includes land transfer on burra train, boat, transfer, professional bilingual guide, lunch, taxes. Duration of this tour is approximately 6-8 hours.

Fish ID Slide Show (Sundays at 6:30 p.m.)

Learn about the tropical fish and coral formations found in the waters around us. Even the novice snorkeler should be able to recognize our colorful schools following this informative presentation by one of our dive masters.


Kayaking & Canoeing

Kayaks and canoes are available to our guests for all day use. The equipment is located on Anthony's Key, next to the taxi boat stand. If you are unfamiliar with the equipment, our dive shop can assist you.


Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is offered daily. All tours are fully guided. Simply sign up at the front desk for the hours desired. Hitching post is by the main entrance across from the Institute for Diving building. We recommend wearing long pants to prevent scratching to your legs, and closed toe shoes.


Island Fiesta Night

The Island Fiesta night is on Wednesdays at Anthony's Key. Happy Hour is from 5:00 pm - 7:00pm. Guests also enjoy live music, a limbo contest, and crab races.


Tropical Beach Picnic

One of the highlights of the week takes place on Mondays, when divers, snorkelers and landlubbers unite at Fins n Flippers. Arrive by boat following the second daily dive or morning snorkel trip and this beautiful private oasis yours to enjoy for the day. Relax under a coconut canopy, lounge by the pool, enjoy a delicious picnic lunch and shop for souvenirs in Tonina's Gifts Shop. Depart for your third dive from the beach, or return to the resort on the snorkel boat around 3 p.m


OVERNIGHT EXCURSIONS

Many overnight excursions involve a stay in coastal La Ceiba, or in San Pedro Sula. Unless specified otherwise, air transportation to/from La Ceiba or San Pedro Sula is additional. You can visit Pico Bonito National Park, Copan Ruins; take a tour to San Pedro Sula City for shopping and overnight tour to LakeYojoa.

Pico Bonito National Park

Pico Bonito Mountain looms 7,300 feet above the park, comprised of lush cloud forests and pristine rainforests. Among the park's fauna are resplendent quetzals, tapirs, jaguars and several species of monkeys. During the rainy season, countless waterfalls spout from the mountain- sides.

This tour begins with an intense hike to one of the river's many crystal clear swimming holes. Birds, insects and fauna will be pointed out by your guide. A packed box lunch will be provided.

Copan Ruins

Single and group rates upon request.
One of the most intricately sculpted and most preserved sites of the Mayan world. Nearly 4,000 structures still survive, including temples, plazas, ball courts and altars. Price includes a 3-hour land transfer from San Pedro Sula in an air-conditioned vehicle, lunch, entrance fees to ruins, one night in Hotel Marina or similar, breakfast in Copan, professional bilingual guide and taxes. An additional night in Copan can be added.

Hot Springs $50 (from Copan)

The hot springs are ideal to soothe your body after a long day at the ruins or horseback riding. The trip takes about 1 hour each way and offers the option of a natural pool in a mixture of cold and hot running water or artificial pools. Price includes land transfer on a standard vehicle, entrance fees, bilingual guide and taxes.


Horseback Riding $35 (from Copan)

The Copanvalley offers many options for horseback riding. The most popular is the ride to the Hacienda San Lucas; here you will see the abundant birds of the area, the farm landof Copan, and the opportunity to explore a typical Honduran "finca". The Hacienda San Lucas is an excellent place to dine. Price includes horse, donkey or mule ride, entrance fees, bilingual guide and taxes.


Coffee Plantation Tour $15 (from Copan)

There are many coffee plantations in Copan. The Sanat Isabel Coffee Farms offers you an insight to the coffee process from its growing to the harvesting and drying of the bean. The tour is most interesting between the months of November-March for this is the time of year when the coffee bean is harvested and dried. Price includes walk around plantation, a sample bag of coffee, entrance fees, bilingual guide and taxes.


Macaw Mountain Bird Park Tour $20 (from Copan)

Price includes visit to the park, land transfer, entrance fees and bilingual guide and taxes. Here you will see a collection of Honduran and Central American macaws, toucans, and parrots that have been recovered from captivity. Luscious landscaping, carefully manicured trails and the extensive bird collection make this a unique experience.


San Pedro Sula City Shopping and Sightseeing Tour

This tour takes you to visit the Guamilito Market, it is the best place to purchase everything from rum, cigars, coffee, to handicrafts to take home as souvenirs. After visiting the market, lunch is at a nearby cafe in front of the market. After lunch the tour starts with a visit of the banana plantation and a visit to Imapro Mahogany factory. The duration of this tour is approximately 3-4 hours.

Lake Yojoa Overnight Tour

LakeYojoa is the largest Natural Lake in Honduras60 miles south of San Pedro Sula. It is famous for black bass fishing, and boasts some of the best bird watching opportunities in the country. It is surrounded by two National Parks with a cloud forest habitat. The tour starts with a drive from San Pedro Sulaand includes a stop at the beautiful waterfalls of Pullapanzak, great for swimming.

Price includes land transfer on an air-conditioned vehicle, entrances fees, bilingual guide, breakfast, accommodations at Hotel Las Glorias or similar, and taxes.

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

Anthony's Key Resort is the ideal family vacation destination. Parents enjoy time for them, while children learn about and interact with bottlenose dolphins or participate in a variety of PADI programs. Baby sitting services are available as well.

SASY: Supplied Air Snorkeling for Youth

Cost: $30 per session
Included in Dolphin Scuba Camp fee

Children can swim on the surface without fear of inhaling water through a snorkel tube, and the SASY jackets provide ample buoyancy and hold the compressed air securely in place. This program is designed for kids too young to Scuba dive, ages 5 and up.

Bubblemaker

Cost: $100 per session
Included in Dolphin Scuba Camp fee.

Allows children 8 years and older to experience breathing under water. Held in water no deeper than 6 feet, kids get to experience the thrill of Scuba diving in a controlled environment. As part of the program, all participants will receive a PADI Bubblemaker decal, tattoo, toy and certificate of completion.
