Set in a private nature reserve spread over 1,000 acres of Central America's last remaining lowland tropical rainforest in Costa Rica, Lapa Rios Ecolodge overlooks the pristine point where the Golfo Dulce meets the wild Pacific Ocean, making it the destination that matches every one's idea of paradise. Lapa Rios was built by John and Karen Lewis as a private nature reserve. Today a conservation easement elaborated by The Nature Conservancy and Cederena ensure that this rainforest will be preserved into perpetuity. “Lapa Rios” in the old Costa Rican Spanish means “Rivers of the Scarlet Macaw" and you will be sure to see these magnificent colorful birds if you come to visit here. And it is one of the last places on earth where you can do so. Come and experience the rainforest at its prime. Give yourself the chance to disconnect from the outside world, slow down and observe nature.

AMENITIES
• Sixteen spacious suites-thatch bungalows nestled about 300 feet above the ocean within the rain forest exude harmony and an immense tranquility in this undisturbed environment. • The bungalows can sleep up to 4 people in 2 queen size beds. Each has an indoor (solar-heated) shower and a private garden shower, 2 sinks, large closets, and a deck overlooking the rainforest and the ocean. Please note: All bungalow access requires stair and path walking. • Newly remodeled bathrooms invite you on a sensory journey, featuring a dual showering experience. • The main lodge, housing the restaurant and bar, soars 50 feet and is built of local, natural materials. • Swimming at the beach (approx. 7 min down a steep path) is good and safe, but the main attraction is the rainforest and the wildlife surrounding the lodge. • 24-hour electricity available via battery. • The Lapa Rios office is situated 45 min by car from the lodge and bungalows.
CUISINE
Enjoy gourmet meals in the middle of a rainforest with a window to the wild at Lapa Rios Ecolodge. Since its beginning the multi-award winning resort offers gastronomical delights that greatly enhance the enjoyment of their guests. The lodge’s restaurant Brisa Azul specializes in freshly-cooked international cuisine infused with a hint of the tropics and offers breathtaking vistas and an experience of the rainforest like none other.
ACTIVITIES
Sign up at reception for the reserve tours. All guided tours in the Lapa Rios Reserve help support the ongoing maintenance of the reserve. The tours also help, in a moderate way, to preserve the National Park Corcovado by paying for a ranger to guard the park. Choosing to hike and learn with a knowledgeable local guide gives the community continuing economic support and demonstrates that this diverse lowland tropical rain forest left standing is more valuable than one cut down.
