Portofino is located on Ambergris Caye, the largest Island (Caye) along the Belize Barrier Reef (second largest in the world). Needless to remark that this is the most spectacular dive paradise in the world, including the Blue Hole, made famous by Jacques Cousteau, during his 1970 expedition with the Calypso, but there is more... Located North of San Pedro, Portofino sits on the most beautiful beaches of the island. Although you come to a very peaceful and quiet resort, the town with its shops and nightlife is just 15 minutes away by boat. Many of the best restaurants are located north of San Pedro. The Portofino service is second to none. Room service is offered to every room, daily housekeeping service and 24 hour maintenance is available to make sure your stay is no less than perfect. Access to the Portofino hotel is by boat only. All guests are met and greeted at the San Pedro Airstrip and when their boat transfer arrives. Concierge service ensures that all luggage is taken promptly to your room, so you can start relaxing the minute you arrive.

ROOM TYPES
Beachfront Cabanas: The Beachfront Cabanas are double-bungalow, side-by-side units, and have a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea and barrier reef. They all contain one queen size bed in the main bedroom area, a private bathroom, and fully equipped with air conditioning, satellite television, a mini-refrigerator, hair dryer, and wireless internet. The inside of the roof is made of hand thatched Palapa rising 18ft into the air.
Junior Suites: Just the same as our beachfront cabanas except that they include a roof ceiling instead of the thatched Palapa roof as these are located just below the honeymoon suite.
Colonial Suites: With a size of 800 square feet the Colonial Suites have a partly obstructed ocean view as they are located on the ground floor of the treetop suites right on the back side of the cabanas. They are concrete buildings with mahogany windows and wooden floors and all contain one king size bed in the main bedroom area, a private bathroom, and are fully equipped with air conditioning, satellite television, a mini-refrigerator, hair dryer, and wireless internet. As well these suites have a full-length balcony (with a hammock and wooden chairs) still offering great views.
Treetop Suites: These suites are elevated, contain one king sized bed, a couch, a large private bathroom with jungle shower and are fully equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV, a DVD player, hairdryer and wireless internet. They measure 580 square feet (55 square meters) and are elevated 12 feet (almost 4 meters) in the air with hand-thatched palapa roof and a full-length balcony (with a hammock and wooden chairs) offering great views.
Honeymoon Suite: The deluxe VIP Honeymoon Suite contains a four poster king sized bed, a couch, large private bathroom with jungle shower, has a small Jacuzzi tub and is fully equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV, DVD player, hairdryer, wireless internet and has the most amazing view of the Caribbean! It measures 800 square feet (75 square meters), has a hand-thatched Palapa and two 225 square feet (20 square meters) balconies with a hammock and wooden chairs - one overlooking the Caribbean sea, and the other one overlooking the lagoon.
VIP Suite: These suites have a size of 800 square feet and are located in front of the ocean giving a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea and barrier reef. They are concrete buildings with mahogany windows and wooden floors and all contain one king size bed in the main bedroom area, a private bathroom, and are fully equipped with air conditioning, satellite television, a mini-refrigerator, hair dryer, and wireless internet. The inside of the roof of these shows the hand thatched Palapa roof rising 18ft into the air as well and they also have a full-length balcony (with a hammock and wooden chairs) offering great ocean views.
Portofino Mansion: This option one of the finest suites on Ambergris Caye and is perfect for friends/family wanting to stay together. It consists of two levels, beach and top. Each is completely air-conditioned and fully furnished and has two bedrooms with queen size beds, one bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a living and dining area. Each living room has a TV and DVD/CD player for which we also have a collection (DVD's) that can be used at no extra charge. The bathroom is equipped with bathrobes, bath towels, and a hair dryer. It also has two large porches with amazing views, one facing the Caribbean Sea and the other in the back facing the lagoon containing a hammock and wooden chairs perfect for relaxation.
CUISINE
Established in March of 2003, “Le Bistro” restaurant was designed with concepts of Euro-Caribbean Fusion Cuisine. The chef’s background in French and Italian cuisine fuses the freshest local seafood, meats and products available in Belize and features mostly an all Sauté Menu with individual custom plate presentations. The menu offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar appetizers as well as nightly specials. If there is something not on the menu or some other culinary delight you may have in mind, check with the chef. “Le Bistro” will gladly accommodate you if the products are available.
“Le Bistro” is the only restaurant on Ambergris Caye that offers Pier Dining at Night; under the Mayan stars with your own personal wait staff. Pier Dining at Night is very popular with Honeymooners and other special occasions, so reservations are recommended.
ACTIVITIES
As a result of the caye's protection by the reef, there is an abundance of underwater life just minutes from the hotel, attracting many fish and making this the ultimate fishing and diving paradise in the world.
You can also explore Belize on daytrips starting from the Portofino dock; visit the many spectacular Mayan ruins, in the middle of pristine rivers, waterfalls and rainforest jungle, housing a wide range of plants, animals, and birds. Over 40% of Belize consists of protected wildlife parks and reserves. Or go to one of the many caves in Belize, with Maya remains, spectacular geologic cave formations, or just relax and go cave tubing.
Whatever you decide, whether you come for a relaxing vacation or for an active and adventurous stay, a relaxing massage will always do you good. The Portofino offers more than one possibility to do so: you can just stay in your room, and have the masseuse come there, you can walk down the beach, and go to Jade Spa, or you can make a full day trip to the Maruba Jungle Spa.
The Portofino reception in the main building is manned by professional and knowledgeable staff available for any request. They can advise you competently on all tours and detailed written descriptions are also available.
